Amethyst

Recently, I made this set of birthstone jewelry out of amethyst for a sweet customer that just loved her purple birthstone.  As I was making it and using all of that amethyst, I thought of the amount of the stone she would be wearing and wondered what kind of energy this beautiful stone held and all the glorious meaning she could look forward to when she wore it all.

Here’s what I found:

Originally derived from the Greek word, amethystos, meaning “without drunkenness”, amethyst was traditionally used to guard against drunkenness and poison. {Wow!  Did not see that coming from a gazillion miles away.}

Like many gemstones, it has been used for a variety of purposes and has a range of meaning.  For instance, it is considered a dream stone; one could put this stone under their pillow and count on sweet dreams.  I need to try this, for sure.  My dreams are almost always disturbing, sad, or stressful.  I long for the day of a really nice slice of life dream from which I just wake up feeling refreshed.  {sigh}

Known as the Bishop’s Stone, amethyst is revered as a very holy stone, symbolizing piety, humility, sincerity, and spiritual wisdom.  Today, it continues to be worn by Catholic Bishops.  {interesting}

Amethyst is used for a ton of healing purposes, from headaches {just rub it on your head} to breathing to the heart to healing energy in the home {put a few crystal cluster on the window sills}.  It is also used as a focus stone for meditation.

Wow!!  This is such a versatile and useful gemstone, so it might be a fine idea to keep some handy.  Read more on amethyst meaning and purpose at Crystal Cure.

As you get to know me, you’ll know that I own, both, Ivory Fawn + The Chestnut Forge; while TCF is strictly jewelry, Ivory Fawn is a curated collection of handmade fashion and home decor, made by myself and my family.  For now, all of these are available at The Chestnut Forge; I’ve linked all of the photos, and I’m listing each piece below.
